Follow on Google News | Pupils Enjoy Bedales Tudor Music WorkshopBedales recently hosted a workshop for young musicians to give them a taste of music education at the school and the chance to experience participation in a concert in the Olivier Theatre.
By: Bedales School Pupils began by discovering the dance choreography of the Tudor period before moving on to exploring the music played at such performances. Bedales Director of Music, Nick Gleed and Director of Music at Bedales Prep, Ben Harlan, led the music workshops with the children aged from 8 – 11, which featured madrigals, instrumental ensembles and the chance to play in a renaissance band alongside Bedales sixth form musicians. The children brought a variety of instruments to play on the day such as violins, flutes and oboes and enjoyed the opportunity to perform with children from other schools across different year groups. Commenting on the experience, Joanna Wardroper Head of Music at Oakwood House said, “The day was a terrific opportunity for my pupils to immerse themselves in music and enjoy the experience of performing together on stage in the theatre. The concert performance was a wonderful finale to the day.” Keith Budge, Head of Bedales Schools said, “We chose the theme of Tudor England, as it was a time when this country held an important artistic position in Europe and because Tudor music is quite approachable. Music is central to the communal life of the school at Bedales and something that the school’s founder, John Badley, embraced when forming his vision of the school in the 1890s. We wanted to give other talented young musicians the chance to indulge in their passion for music and a glimpse of what could be possible for them as they progress to senior school.” End
