Oct. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- SUBIC BAY, October 9, 2013 – The latest batch of organic (http://www.grainpro.com/), export-quality rice from the Cordillera region ready for shipment to the United States required being stored for a few weeks in Nueva Ecija, Philippines.

To maintain the quality, freshness and character of each variety before being shipped, Revitalize Indigenous Cordillera Entrepreneurs, Inc. and Eight Wonder, Inc. tapped the help of Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ) company GrainPro Philippines, Inc.

Using GrainPro Philippines’ Gas-Hermetic Fumigation or G-HF Cocoon™, 12 metric tons of organic heirloom rice grown in Philippine rice terraces underwent organic fumigation safely and without any problems at the Philippine Rice Institute in Munoz. This process is necessary to comply with U.S. sanitary requirements.

The locally-based RICE, Inc. and Eight Wonder, Inc., a non-profit organization from Montana has been helping local farming communities in the Cordilleras and Mountain Province regions to market their unique rice varieties internationally. In cooperation with the Philippine Department of Agriculture and the efforts of the Rice Terraces Farmers’ Cooperative, the joint organizations are able to meet the country’s export quota of 100 metric tons while increasing the incomes of the farmers in that region. GrainPro was there to support with its Ultra Hermetic™ technology ensuring that the milled rice meet international standards.

“With the help of our G-HF technology, small companies can easily take care of the fumigation of rice to meet international standards for organic treatment and handling of commodities,” says Tom De Bruin, President of GrainPro Philippines, Inc.

GrainPro’s line of Ultra Hermetic products are proven to prevent moisture ingress, stop damaging environmental processes, and effectively kill any forms of pests inside its products. The company is determined to reduce post-harvest food losses at a global scale as a supplier of organic fumigation solutions throughout the developing world.

It’s partnership with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the University of Hohenheim in Germany ensures that these products are 100% effective and safe for the environment. Partnerships from international food organizations allow it to disseminate this breakthrough around the world.
