DENVER - Oct. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Young Americans Center for Financial Education, a Denver-based non-profit that develops the financial literacy of youth and young adults, is pleased to announce it is offering a series of free financial literacy classes in conjunction with Great-West Great-Teachers, a program of Great-West Financial to help teach personal financial literacy.

Family classes: Young Americans will host classes for families at three different locations throughout the fall.  These classes will offer age-appropriate financial activities for youth while parents are treated to pointers from financial experts and the opportunity to exchange best practices.  The classes run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Dinner is served to all event attendees, and these classes are free for the public.  Registration is required.

  October 15 – 3550 East 1st Avenue, Denver

  November 12 – 4800 Telluride Street, Building #5, Denver

December 10 – 401 South Piece Street, Lakewood

Youth classes: Youth up to the age of 12 are invited to free Saturday classes covering a variety of money basics.  These classes, each one hour long at Young Americans’ Headquarters facility in Denver, are designed to introduce one financial concept to each age group.  Attendees receive $5 to deposit into their bank accounts, or to use to open a bank account.  All classes are free but registration is required.

  October 19 –   10:30-11:30: Explore Entrepreneurship - Ages 9-11

         12:00-1:00: Budgeting Basics - Ages 6-8

  November 16 – 10:30-11:30: Coin Smarts - Ages 3-5

12:00-1:00: On My Own Budgeting Basics - Ages 12+

Classroom outreach: Money Matters also works to bring personal financial literacy lessons to the classroom.  The Money Matters staff will conduct 36 sessions at Eastridge Elementary in Aurora throughout the fall, introducing concepts like saving, budgeting, and philanthropy.

Teacher support: Young Americans recognizes that many teachers lack thorough knowledge to teach to the personal financial literacy state testing standards.  Therefore, the Money Matters team is offering a free four-hour class to any interested teachers to help with finance basics in the classroom.  In addition to four credit hours, teachers will receive a wealth of resources and handouts to supplement the classroom experience.  The class is free to attend for all teachers, but registration is required.

Money Matters classes are all free thanks to the generous support of Great-West Great-Teachers, a program of Great-West Financial.  More information and registration for all classes can be found at http://yacenter.org/pfe or contact Sara Sankovich at ssankovich@yacenter.org or 303-320-3214.
