BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Oct. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES, CA - According to the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), a person who has difficulty communicating in a one on one setting; can better communicate to a large crowd through song or musical instrument. The idea of Music Therapy has been around since the writings of Aristotle and this film will explore how it’s being used in modern day.

‘Before We Were Kings’ follows the journey of an up & coming DJ enrolled in the world famous Scratch DJ Academy, as he touches turntables for the first time all the way to his first gig. The film will be narrated using the stories of some of the DJ world’s most respected artist. Its goal will be to discover if the metamorphosis into a DJ, can help someone challenged in social settings overcome that obstacle. Music Therapist from NYU’s - Nordoff Robbins Center for Music Therapy & American Music Therapy Association will be interviewed to get expert insight & learn how DJing could impact someone on a mental & emotional level.

Some of the DJs that are set to share their beginning stories include Wolfgang Gartner, DJ Robbie Wilde (‘That Deaf DJ’), Sander Kleinenberg, Sandra Collins, DJ Hapa, and Gina Turner . Audience members will hear about the experience these DJs had; touching turntables for the first time, DJing their first gig, & the effect performing in front of thousands has on them.

A goal of the film is to introduce people to another form of treatment for mental challenges, such as Anxiety Disorders other than prescription pills. The film will also try to dispel certain myths & rumors about the DJ world. “Music keeps me smiling at the end of the day -- it gives me strength & joy." says world renown DJ - Carl Cox. For many of the film’s DJs, the art form is a means to express themselves in a way they wouldn’t typically.
