Loving Beyond Ourselves & More

Some days are just more interesting than others. Today was one that revealed so much to me about me. I saw someone from my past. At one point we were to be married. This was decades ago. Two special people that cared about one another more than imaginable. But we did. I wrote an article a while back titled "Is Love Always Unconditional?" The answer is yes, in my opinion. The other things we humans call love are simply not love at all. They are emotions pretending to be something priceless.

I began thinking about it on the long ride back from our meeting. It was in fact, a business meeting. A pleasant business meeting, but still business. I will attempt to unpack the thoughts that were floating around my head. These get me in trouble at times, so I will unpack carefully.

I have heard the phrase "God is Love" my entire life. It meant more to me today than ever in the past. I guess it was what most would call, and epiphany of sort. If God truly is love, and I firmly believe this to be true, then I am rethinking what we are actually capable of. To find that you love another beyond yourself, meaning you care more about them, than the humanness inside you. Sounds impossible. But remember, God is love. An infinite God means God is everywhere and forever. Even in us.

Traits this authentic love possess, at least in me, are complex. First and foremost, it needs no other components to it. No romantic component. There is none. Just love. No need to see or talk. Like I said, it had been decades. God is not hindered by time and space, and God is love. So authentic love isn't either. Decades, nothing, same love. As long as I knew she was happy, safe, etc. I was good. It never mattered who she was with. Just be happy, and again, I'm good. This because of authentic love. No need or desire to possess her, it isn't like that. No need to have anything other than the knowledge she is doing well. Think about your children. Same thing with the exception I do miss mine.

I will end this by stating. Finding this in us is the most Godlike ability we have been blessed to accomplish. God really is love. Go figure.
