ScottMadden to Present at 2013 EUCI Conference

Oct. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, is proud to present at EUCI’s Improving Regulatory Outcomes: A How-To Guide Conference (http://www.euci.com/events/?ci=2062) to be held Monday, October 28–Tuesday, October 29 at the Avenue Crowne Plaza in Chicago, Illinois. This event will provide a hands-on workshop to improve regulatory filing outcomes—the pros, the cons, what's worked, and what hasn't. Rick Starkweather, partner and regulatory practice leader at ScottMadden, will lead the workshop and serve as conference chair.

Mr. Starkweather will open the conference with a discussion on how the regulatory landscape is changing, how it is impacting rate cases today, and how utilities are responding. Mr. Starkweather will also moderate a panel discussion on “The Evolution of the Regulatory Compact.” It will focus on ways that utilities and regulators can work together to improve the rate case outcomes for both customers and utility shareholders. The distinguished panel will be: Melissa Sherrod, Vice President of Regulatory Projects at Commonwealth Edison; Jackie Voiles, Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs at Ameren Illinois; and Kevin Wright, President at the Illinois Competitive Energy Association.

Additionally, Mr. Starkweather will lead “Improving Regulatory Outcomes.” This interactive session will take workshop participants through a self-diagnostic and discussion on how to improve their regulatory processes. Participants will gain insight in evaluating potential areas of opportunity and developing a more structured approach to implement improvements.

“The current industry track record on rate cases is not very good,” said Mr. Starkweather. “Companies are only receiving about 57% of what they are asking for in their rate case filings. The purpose of the workshop is to help utilities improve these outcomes.”
