How To Choose The Best Home Plan

Home plans, also known as house plans, are construction drawings that are used to plan out the specifications for constructing a residential home including the materials used, dimensions, techniques to build the home, and many other details.

MONROE, Conn. - Oct. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Home plans were formerly known as blueprints although this term is less used now.

Home plans use various symbols to identify objects and show relationships between each object in the plan. They are designed for an architect or contractor to read, although you can learn what many of the symbols that are used in home plans mean and figure out a lot of what is being demonstrated in a plan. Home plans have every detail that contractors need to know in order to properly construct a home based on specifications including electrical and plumbing information and details on the exact materials that should be used to complete the home.

A full home plan will have many different construction drawings and guidelines for home construction. Floor plans are used to organize and visualize the construction of each of the floors of the home. The roof plan shows how the roof should be constructed including details on the design and slopes of the roof. There are also details included on what type of insulation should be used in the walls, elevation drawings, cross sections of the home, a foundation plan for the home’s footprint, and a structural plan that describes the connections of the home with details about framing.

Home plans are drawn perfectly to scale, meaning that the plans look identical in their dimensions to how the home will look when it is fully built. That is to say, if a room is 1 inch by 1 inch on the house plan, and the room is supposed to be 144 square feet in size, then the room when built will be 12 feet by 12 feet exactly. Also, if there are walls shown on a house plan that are thicker than other walls on the house plan, they will be thicker in the house itself.

Stock home plans are a way for new home builders to build a brand new design without having to pay a large fee to come up with a custom architectural design, which can cost several thousands of dollars. Stock home plans (http://www.thehousedesigners.com/house-plans/) such as the ones available on The House Designers can save money on a newly built home design, and many of them can be customized based on a person’s preferences.
