Follow on Google News | Naperville Roofing Contractor Completes Church DomeBy: Showalter Roofing Service, Inc. The domes will be part of an adjacent Byzantine-style church added onto the Holy Nativity Romanian Orthodox Church in Chicago. Three domes were created in total: one large dome that took approximately one month to complete, and two smaller domes that took around a week a piece. Ryan Moore, who worked on the project along with other members of Showalter’s Architectural Sheet Metal team, explains the process. “We first made sample panels using felt paper, then installed the panels after bending and stretching the seams,” Moore said. “We installed an outer drip edge, which we curved with a crimp roller. The last step was the caps that were riveted on the seams. The beautiful copper penny color of the domes comes from the .032 gauge aluminum we used.” Moore’s description makes the job sound easy, but not every roofing company could pull off such a project. “This is an incredibly unique thing for a traditional roofing company to do,” Moore said. “You have to have at least five years’ experience working with sheet metal, along with good geometry skills. The domes are bell shaped, making it difficult to curve the metal panels in two different directions.” Showalter Roofing Service, Inc. offers residential, commercial and green roofing to Naperville and surrounding Chicago suburbs.
