The award ceremony began on arrival of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. After reading of the citation and the details of the Award, Dr. Rajendra Achyut Badwe walked up to the President to receive the prestigious award amidst a thunderous applause by the audience numbering over 300. Prominent among those present on the occasion were Union Ministers, Governors, Members of the Congress Working Committee, Diplomats, Members of Parliament, senior Govt. officials, officers of the Armed forces, Ambassadors, renowned academicians and Corporate leaders.
Dr. Rajendra Achyut Badwe is a well-known surgical oncologist and has been recognised for his outstanding contribution in the field of Cancer Research. Presently, he is the Director of Tata Memorial Centre and Professor & Head, Department of Surgical Oncology, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
