Greenscape on sustainability and environmental practices at CII Conference on Green Growth

SARITA VIHAR, India - Oct. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized a Conference on Green Growth - The Only Way Forward on 27thSeptember 2013 at Hotel Westin, Gurgaon. While in the past CII has been involving Industry and Government alone, this Initiative on environment also included Society - residents and school children to ensure that sustained efforts are made by all stakeholders.

Ms Shubhra Kumar,Senior Manager, Greenscape Eco Management spoke about the upgrading and refurbishing benefits of e-waste, she emphasized on the wealth aspect of the IT assets. She commented "Our future with growing per-capita consumption rate will be shaped by how well we manage limited resources. She said that a gold wedding ring requires 10 tons of gold ore but only 10 kilos of mobile phones. She added that "we need to extend the lifecycle of electronic products by promoting second and third electronic use, reduce our carbon footprint by recycling obsolete electronics and salvaging components for reuse and re-manufacturing raw materials. We need to focus on creating real wealth for ourselves and future generations by ensuring overall well-being of our planet."

Mr Ashok Lavasa, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India speaking at the conference said thatGrowthcannot be thought of without thinking about the future and analyzing past. He said that we the people living in cities need to learn the eco-system arrangement in our villages. He added that we are today facing the worst energy crisis which is being faced all over the world and hence apart from considering renewable energy alternatives, we need to reduce our energy consumption by collective efforts. He also informed the participants about the creation of smart power grids for reducing the waste of energy to minimal.

Mr S S Bala, Additional Director, Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India said that Industry needs to segregate the waste categorically into bio degradable and degradable waste to ensure effective waste management. He said that we will have to understand that it is individuals and not the industry or households that need to rethink their waste generation and waste management. He added that we need to curb the habit of producing waste by considering the environmental impact of each and every activity of our daily life cycle.


The conference saw presentations by Mr Rahul Garg, Assistant Director - Operations & Portfolio Management, Carrier Air-conditioning & Refrigeration Pvt Ltd, Mr Barun Aggarwal, Director, Paharpur Business Center, Prof Charanjit Singh Shah, Founding Principal, Creative Group, Mr S S Bath, Founder & Architect, Sky Farms, Ms Anuradha Joshi, Principal, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and Mr A K Upadhyay, Vice President,RWA, Vasant Kunj

Through the conference, CII tried to connect the re-cycling industry and the society by associating with an International E-waste and recycling organisation - Dataserv (A R2 certified recycler), providing whole life-cycle value for assets to the end users. A pledge was signed by all the stakeholders showing commitment towards reducing Carbon footprint by working jointly on Waste Management & re-cycling.

The conference witnessed the presence of more than 160 participants from industry, schools, colleges and resident welfare associations from the NCR region comprising Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida and Delhi.
