SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Oct. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- McTavish family opens Santa Barbara Art Foundry Plus Fox Wine Company Tasting Room on site

(Santa Barbara, CA 9/5/13) Announcing the newest, most unique addition to the Santa Barbara art destination scene. It’s the Santa Barbara Art Foundry with a grand opening set for Saturday, October 5 from 10am to 5pm at 120 Santa Barbara St., in the Funk Zone. There’s nothing like it in town. It’s a real fun ‘combo platter’ business and it fits perfectly into the Funk Zone - a newly expanding popular art & wine destination in Santa Barbara for residents and visitors alike. The Foundry will be open daily to the public for tours from 10am to 5 pm. For more information, please check out the website here: www.sbartfoundry.com.

Join in the festivities on Saturday, October 5 and welcome the three-generation family business, Santa Barbara Art Foundry (SBAF) headed up by Ian & Jolie McTavish and their son Andy, which will feature a tour of the foundry, art & wine. Additionally, they plan to have the space available to rent for private parties. On the impending opening, Ian stated, "I have wanted to open our foundry to the public for at least 20 years. It will be fun to share this fascinating process with interested people. Now that our son has graduated from business school, I'm very excited to be expanding the family business, and learning from him too!”

Start with a free tour to see the many steps involved in the way bronze sculptures are created using the “lost wax” method. This manufacturing method can be traced back 4,000 years to ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome, South America and Asia. The public tour makes the venture unique - there are only a few art foundries in the world open to the public. All those who take the tour will receive a free glass of wine to enjoy at the conclusion of their molten metal exploration.

Jolie McTavish, co-director of SBAF said, “Visitors will be able to see the process first hand and learn more about the numerous steps involved in the ancient “lost wax” method, used for centuries. They will be able to watch skilled artisans at work, touch the sample sculpture at each stage of production, and see the finished sculpture available for purchase in the adjacent sales gallery.” Guests are sure to come away with a deeper appreciation for the art and how much time and talent go into the creation of every piece.

Andy McTavish, who will serve as the general manager for the Foundry, is the first-generation American, born here in Santa Barbara in 1988. He was recently married to artist Alexandria Moricca and after a year working at the foundry and a year learning the business ropes at the corporate headquarters in Park City UT, they are now making their home in downtown Santa Barbara. "I am really excited to be a part of this project. I feel honored that we are able to represent these amazing artists in a way that will let the public know how much time and effort goes into producing these works of art. I am also excited to bring a new art twist to Santa Barbara."

Fox Wine Company, headed by award-winning winemaker Blair Fox and his wife Sarah, will have their first tasting room in Santa Barbara. Both Santa Barbara natives, Sarah stated, “For the new Fox Wine Company tasting room, we created it with the desire to produce elegant Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and to showcase our beautiful bold Syrah, and unique blends. We are thrilled to introduce this new label and are so happy to be part of the new gallery.” This is the one and only location where you can find these unique wines. They will be made entirely by hand, and minimally handled and processed with the goal of demonstrating the unique qualities of Santa Barbara County. Adding this new label and its wines to the already established “Urban Wine Trail” will be a bonus. Fox Wine Co. Tasting Room will be open on the site Thursdays through Mondays 11 am to 6 pm.

Santa Barbara Art Foundry, a Frogman Signature Gallery is located at 120 Santa Barbara St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101.

BACKGROUND:

Metals are a through-line
There are more than a few through lines with metal, sculpture and art that runs in the McTavish clan as well as the Frogman, artist Tim Cotterill. Ian’s father James started in the field of metalworking in Scotland in the 1950s, where he produced the copper tanks for the distillation of Scots whisky. The family also has a business that manufacturers sculpted steel flatware (www.grahamandrewsflatware.com). Ian & Jolie have both participated in Ironman Triathlons - and own an additional company that produces bronze finisher trophies and triathlon sculpture. (www.endurancebronze.com)

ABOUT THE ARTISTS REPRESENTED AT SBAF:

Tim Cotterill, - a.k.a. The Frogman - whose frog sculptures have won him legions of fans & collectors around the world - is the anchor artist for SBAF. His frogs are sure to draw you into their magic. Anyone who loves nature will see the wonder the artist finds in his subjects, (which also used to include owls, geckos and koi). Tim’s frog sculptures are sold in more than 130 art galleries worldwide. One look and you’ll understand why.

Cotterill's bronze frog sculptures capture the whimsical character, the jewel-like quality and the pure JOY of these beautiful little creatures. Tim said, "Through the centuries and throughout the world, frogs have symbolized many things - good luck, royalty, fertility, magic potions, energy, and charm. In today's fast world, life sometimes becomes complicated and stressful. As you can see, my art is not. It's elegant, stylish, whimsical, unique and pure FUN!” He continued, “As children we were excited to see our first frogs. They made us laugh when they jumped our way! We were curious about the strange way they felt; the odd way they moved and their simple contented look. I used to watch frogs at my pond in England, noting how each one had its own color markings, character and even personality."

Tim's work is now represented in fine art galleries worldwide.

Ting Shao Kuang
Well-known, revered Chinese artist Ting Shao Kuang, whose work is now bringing in record sales numbers since he retired from the art world, will round out the gallery. Ting’s works have been seen in museums around the world.

Back in 1991, Ting’s painting “White Night” set a new record for the highest amount ever paid for a contemporary Chinese painting for the auctioned price of HK$2.2Million (about US$283,000.00).
