The website noted that the circumstances of the Texans’ game on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks put a specific NFL betting trend into play for this game against the 49ers. This particular trend reflects negatively for Houston’s chances both when it comes to actually winning the game, as well as covering the seven-point pointspread
On Sunday, the Texans led Seattle 20-3 after two quarters, but eventually lost the contest in overtime by a 23-20 score. This week, the aforementioned seven-point Las Vegas betting line is coupled with a total of 42.5.
The trend looks at a team that lost a game in which it had a halftime lead of 14 points or more and is now playing a road contest with a total under 45. Since 2003, there have been 12 games played within these parameters, and the team attempting to recover from the loss has only managed to beat the Las Vegas betting line three times.
In addition to the poor numbers mentioned above, the teams have dropped five consecutive contests in such fashion. The most recent team to buck this trend was the Miami Dolphins, who as 3.5-point underdog with a total of 40.5 on November 1, 2009, defeated the New York Jets by a 30-25 score. That victory came one week after the Dolphins had lost 46-34 to the New Orleans Saints after leading 24-10 at halftime.
