Texas VFW Announces Support for Honor Our Soldiers Campaign

The Texas VFW supports the national Honor Our Soldiers campaign to pay tribute to American veterans, past and present.

AUSTIN, Texas - Sept. 30, 2013 - PRLog -- AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars, a state affiliate of the National Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, is proud to announce its support for Honor Our Soldiers, a national campaign to recognize the sacrifices of American veterans, past and present.

The Honor Our Soldiers campaign seeks to create awareness for the many historical sites, where American soldiers have fought and died, that are now at risk of being lost beneath a bulldozer’s blade. For example, nearly 20 percent of the nation’s Civil War battlefields have already been destroyed by development — denied forever to future generations. Of those that remain, only 15 percent are protected as National Parks. For more information on Honor Our Soldiers, visit www.HonorOurSoldiers.org

“Just as American soldiers have fought and died overseas, they have also fought and died on American soil. It’s important to preserve these historical battlefields so Americans today and future generations can celebrate their memory and honor the legacy made possible by the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States,” says Texas VFW State Junior Vice Commander Dan West. “The Texas VFW has always been dedicated to programs that ensure no one is forgotten, so we’re pleased to support the Honor Our Soldiers campaign.”

The Texas VFW takes pride in its commitment to veterans and today’s military, and its membership includes more than 80,000 Texans who have served overseas in war zones or areas demanding arduous duty, including those in Afghanistan and Iraq. The organization’s main objectives are preserving and extending veterans rights, advocating a strong national defense, promoting patriotism and serving local communities. The Trust also promotes educational programs and heritage tourism initiatives to inform the public of the war's history and the fundamental conflicts that sparked it.
