Yellow Peril Gallery joins Artsy

First contemporary art gallery in Rhode Island invited as Partner

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Oct. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Yellow Peril Gallery is pleased to announce our partnership with Artsy, an e-commerce leader in cataloging the world’s art and changing how art is bought, sold and discovered in the process.  The Olneyville-based gallery is the only contemporary art gallery bestowed with this honor.  Other Artsy members in the region include Barbara Krakow Gallery, La Montagne Gallery and Gallery Naga – all based in Boston.

“Being invited to join Artsy’s elite group of 500 of the world’s leading galleries is a top honor that we attribute to the talent of the artists that we’ve been working with since opening our doors in 2011,” remarks Vanphouthon Souvannasane, Director, Yellow Peril Gallery, noting that close to 1,000 galleries are sitting on a waiting list to join.  “Artsy understands the value each tier of the art world provides, and they work with the existing schematic rather than against it,” he explains.

Some of the perks of partnership include a cloud-based inventory management system, which allows galleries to show art on an iPad, analytics to measure which artists are performing better, and metrics to show where in the world audiences come from.

“Artsy’s Genome Project, which maps artworks to offer recommendations to viewers, and provides a Pandora-like art discovery service, is a very attractive value proposition for us and our artists,” notes Robert P. Stack, Curator, Yellow Peril Gallery.  “For example, a collector or curator who is interested in abstract expressionism may be directed from Mark Rothko’s Artsy profile to someone from the School of Rhode Island like Ruth Dealy,” he shares.  “On Ruth’s profile page, you can view her paintings to scale as if you were experiencing them at a museum.”

Institutional partnerships are also fundamental to Artsy’s success.  They count Guggenheim Museum, SFMOMA, Getty Museum, Nasher Sculpture Center, British Museum, and many other top cultural institutions as partners.

Next, plans are in progress for Artsy to partner with major art fairs to offer online previews of works displayed.  The Amory Show recently embraced the Artsy platform and expanded its reach virtually, serving up more than 4 million artwork views to 270,000 visits to Artsy compared to 50,000 people who visited the fair in person.

“Establishing a strong online presence in the global art marketplace is de rigeur for brick-and-mortar galleries to survive in today’s tempestuous economic climate,” says Souvannasane.  “We are confident Yellow Peril’s partnership with Artsy will help us extend our reach and introduce our artists to critics, curators and collectors beyond Rhode Island.”

Yellow Peril Gallery’s Artsy site officially launched Tuesday, October 1, 2013, and it can be accessed 24/7 via http://artsy.net/yellow-peril.
