BRISBANE, Australia - Sept. 30, 2013 - PRLog -- Domino’s has bucked the trend of adding public holiday surcharges and are encouraging Australians to reconsider paying increased prices at cafes and restaurants on these days.

It’s an issue that raises its head approximately 12 days a year and divides the Australian public. While some places close altogether, others open and forward additional costs onto customers.

Public holiday surcharges are not banned. In fact recently changes were made surrounding these charges with restaurants and cafes no longer having to create separate menus to apply them.

Domino’s, however, has chosen to take a different stance – open and offer many specials and deals to customers without any additional costs or hidden charges.

With an abundance of public holidays just around the corner, Domino’s is reminding their customers that the cost of their pizzas will not increase on legal days off.

Domino’s CEO Don Meij said the Company has a responsibility to deliver great valued, piping hot pizzas every day of the year.

“We have no intentions of enforcing public holiday surcharges. Pizza is and always has been a great social eating food and people often come together on public holidays, so it’s a popular choice,” Mr Meij said.

“Customers are demanding value and that’s what we are giving them. Our customers know Domino’s provides great offers and discounts every day of the week.

“Public holidays are big days for us and we want our customers to know that we aren’t passing on any additional costs or extra charges to them.

“These are just some of the ways we are giving value back to our customers and will continue to do so.”

With pizza a popular public holiday choice it appears the pizza delivery chain could be onto a winner.

“We don’t think it’s fair to pass on a surcharge to try and claw back some of the additional costs associated with operating on a public holiday – the surcharge isn’t really justified.

“In the end of course the customer has a choice and we want our customers to think of Domino’s on public holidays as an option for someone who isn’t adding the 15% surcharge.

“The price of our pizza is final and no additional fees or charges are added regardless of whether it’s a public holiday – that includes Christmas day!” Mr Meij said.

Domino’s Pizza Australia was the first publicly listed pizza chain on the Australian Stock Exchange. With the brand also represented in New Zealand, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Japan the complete Domino’s group store count now sits over 1,200. For more information visit www.dominos.com.au
