The teams are facing a difficult situation when it comes to sports handicapping next weekend. Since week five of last season, teams that have scored 30 or more points, yet still were defeated have just a 4-11 record against the Las Vegas betting line in their next game.
Both teams are coming off contests that fit that specific category. The Packers, who had their bye this weekend, dropped a 34-30 decision at Cincinnati on September 22, while the Bears lost 40-32 to the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
In each of three cases during the 2013 NFL season, teams that were in this select group have failed to beat the pointspread the following week. On September 15, the New York Giants, a 4.5-point underdog, lost 41-23 to the Denver Broncos. The following week, the three-point favorite Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 26-16, and the seven-point favorite Minnesota Vikings lost 31-27 to the Cleveland Browns.
Next week, Green Bay will be hosting the Lions, while Chicago will return home for a game versus the New Orleans Saints
