OIL CITY, Pa. - Sept. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- A Simple Life, a recently completed, independent film by Scott Nelson, is set to come to life on the big screen, during the film’s public premiere on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 7PM, at Venango College of Clarion University, Oil City, PA. The movie, featuring a cast of local area talent and filmed at various Western Pennsylvania locations, and billed as "an emotionally charged look at one woman's journey on the road we all must travel," follows the poignant, often bittersweet and sometimes volatile, relationships between members of one woman’s family, spanning three generations.

"The concept and story line is actually loosely based on events in my own mother's life, growing up in rural Pennsylvania," says writer, director and producer, Scott Nelson, originally from Venango County. "When my sister, Peggy, died a few years ago, I found myself writing...and out of that came the script for this film." Nelson, who also wrote the music for the film, found A Simple Life to be anything but simple. "This has been one of the hardest things I've ever done." A veteran of the acting community, Nelson has a long list of credits and spent four years with the Actor's Studio in New York, but says this film, was a labor of love with many emotional ups and downs. "This is my third independent film and the one closest to my heart, to date. It is definitely emotional for me to finally see this come to the screen."

Nelson mused about his decision to use only local and largely inexperienced talent in the making of his film. "I was completely amazed with the level of talent I discovered on the first day of auditions for this film. I thought I would get a large turnout of average talent. Instead, I got an average turnout of HUGE talent!" He added, "Viewers are going to be pleasantly surprised, not only by the level of the acting, but the amazing period costumes created by Daniel Duda and the artistry of our makeup artist, Royanna Snow. She literally took our leading lady, Joetta Shea, from looking mid-forties to deathbed. Wonderful, wonderful work!" Cameraman, John Beyerl, provided hours of filming and sound assistance in often-grueling conditions. "We filmed in extreme heat, dodging storms and winds that literally carried the actor’s voices away during filming," explained the director, "John had to put up with a lot, yet he was able to capture it all beautifully."

A formal by invitation only screening for the movie’s cast, crew, and the media, complete with a Step and Repeat, takes place at the same 1801West First Street, Oil City, PA location, at 7pm Friday, October 25th. Nelson extends a personal invitation to all interested media outlets to attend that evening’s event to meet and interview the actors and production team. A Simple Life will seek distribution through various film festivals throughout the coming months.
