With distinguished instructors from across the state of Michigan - Paul Ellinger, Liz Larin, Mary McGuire, Michelle Chenard and Harmonie Ponder - musicians will participate in two part workshops and dig in deep through a rigorous interactive curriculum of coaching, master classes which will focus on the process of musical creation from concept to concert.
The following morning the sessions begin and get started with marketing in two parts. The first seminar will cover how to create a compelling EPK (electronic press kit) where attendees will learn how to write and or rewrite a short and extended biography, how to select the right images, quotes, press links, how and when to include gig, concert or show information and the relevant links to professional work (audio, video, images or texts). The second session will get in depth on where to market with a focus online and will investigate syncing with sites such as Facebook, Reverb Nation, Band Page, Music Page, Sound Cloud and YouTube and how use those sites to the musician's best advantage.
Teaching the seminar is Island resident, singer/songwriter and Detroit Music Award winner Mary McGuire. She is the owner of her own publishing company and recently started her own record label, Black Horse Records. She has a multifaceted background across the Humanities and holds an ALB in Humanities from Harvard University and studied music theory and composition at Michigan State University.
Musicians will get fit vocally with Paul Ellinger's Finding Your Voice seminar. His Wavebox Singing method will teach new approaches to vocal techniques that can be utilized by vocalists and instrumentalists alike. It is about “what to think” rather than “what to do” which will give the tools while inspiring musicians to sing with increased emotion and artistry which in turn will creating better music and better musicianship.
Paul Ellinger sings in the celebrated barbershop group Chordiology and also sang with elmoTHUMM, a high-energy, a cappella rock group for over 10 years. His roots have always been firmly placed in barbershop and is a highly sought-after coach, speaker, and emcee. He is the creator of Wavebox Singing and Supercharging Your Chapter! Outreach for Barbershop Quartets and has been teaching workshops across the United States and Canada with incredible success.

In Harmonie Ponder's seminar "Your Online Reputation and Brand" will teach attendees what is needed to create a compelling website while offering examples including reviews of attendees’ current websites and how specific areas need optimization to make the site user and search engine friendly. At the end of the two-day seminar, attendees will learn the difference between simply building a website and harnessing the power of the Internet to succeed in creating a compelling online presence.

Writing music is an art and songwriters are always looking for ways to turn their songs something tangible but mostly they are looking to create a compelling, emotional and melodic song. Award winning singer/songwriter Michelle Chenard will introduce her songwriting course that stimulates the natural creativity within. She will share everything from melody to lyric structure. In this workshop, attendees will learn to develop melodies that express the unique spirit of your lyrics-choose notes, rhythm, and section structures to effectively express lyric meaning and write memorable choruses, bridges and verses that work together as a complete song.
Michelle Chenard is a veteran singer/songwriter who has been continually voted a favorite in Northern Michigan as Best Solo Performer, Best of the Best and more in Northern Express, Northern Michigan’s largest newsweekly. She recently released her first music video, Blade with critical acclaim. She performs hundreds of shows across the state each year and in 2012 scored a Michigan Emmy® Awards for musical score on the TV documentary Sacrifice and Honor: A Tribute to our Northern Michigan Veterans.
