ISLAMORADA, Fla. - Sept. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Peter Wolfson, an underwater enthusiast for more than 20 years, is creating a unique coral reef structure: the world’s only living reef in the form of a peace sign. However, he’s going to need some help to do it. That’s why Wolfson has partnered with Kickstarter.com (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806930898/1092200569?token=f68b7204), a website that invites users to fund creative projects, to see this unique concept come to life.

The Peace Reef will be 200 feet in diameter and will serve as a living peace sign. In addition to the stunning visual concept, the reef will create a marine life habitat and promote responsible marine management. Upon completion, the Peace Reef will be submitted to The Guinness Book of World Records as the “World’s Largest Underwater Living Reef in the Form of a Peace Sign.”

The Peace Reef Project wants to create the World’s Only Living Peace Sign Reef as public art for the world to enjoy for hundreds of years. Wolfson intends to exhibit the Peace Reef through photography, videos, and a documentary upon completion. The project site is also visible from Google Earth for all to see.

The project will be constructed from natural limestone rock and will serve as a model of how to cost-effectively rebuild natural reefs while maximizing the benefits to the environment using this natural approach. Almost immediately upon completing construction, life will immediately start colonizing and growing on the limestone. This includes algae and corals, providing a perfect habitat for marine life of all varieties.

With Kickstarter user support (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806930898/1092200569?...), The Peace Reef Project will complete construction on the reef, which will be located in the Florida Keys, in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 2.5 miles offshore of Islamorada, Florida in 20 feet of water. Upon completion, the reef will serve as a model for reconstructing and maintaining natural coral reefs. In addition to being a beautiful visual structure, The Peace Reef Project is designed to serve as an inspiration to rebuild natural coral reefs around the globe.

“The Peace Reef Project aims to make a difference in the Florida community and the globe,” Wolfson says. “This project serves as a way for me personally to leave a mark on the Earth long after I am gone. I hope Kickstarter supporters can feel the same.”
