International film star and Hollywood Heartthrob Orlando Bloom is making his Broadway debut alongside Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad (Stick Fly, The Trip to Bountiful) as they portray the star-crossed lovers in this new modern, edgy production, which officially opened last Thursday. This version of the classic tale has been masterfully revitalized with a modern setting, innovatively portraying the main roles as an interracial couple at the center of Shakespeare's compelling romantic tragedy.
Romeo & Juliet is playing at the legendary Richard Rogers Theater at 226 West 46th Street. Directed by five-time Tony Award nominee David Leveaux (Arcadia, Cyrano de Bergerac, Nine, The Glass Menagerie, Jumpers), the production features a luminous cast of award-winning talent including Justin Guarini (Songwriter and American Idol Finalist) as Paris, Tony Award nominees Jayne Houdyshell (Follies, Dead Accounts) as the Nurse, Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper (The Life, Chicago, Finian's Rainbow) as Lord Capulet, Christian Camargo as Mercutio, Corey Hawkins as Tybalt, and Geoffrey Owens as Prince Escalus.
