The band started as a two-piece studio project including Aleksander Vormestrand on lead vocals, guitar and production and Hein Alexander Olson on vocals and guitar back in the the summer of 2011.
The bands says that, "They had previously played in a metal band while living on the island of Karmøy. As the ideas and riffs became songs, the studio project wanted to get out of the comfy studio, and hire a drummer. This long-haired guy showed up at a party at Aleksander's place, he turned out to be a drummer. After a discussion about the early prog-movement in England, both came to a toll, Symbiose had a drummer named Erling Andreas Jensen. After about six months a practice space was acquired, and the search for a bassist began. Helge Taksdal, a guitarist from the band Solstorm was asked to play, and the quartet was formed."
The band is currently working on getting an EP ready. They say that they are influenced by the sounds of Red Fang, High On Fire, Meshuggah, Opeth, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Mastodon, Black Sabbath, Sleep, Porcupine Tree, YES, Emperor and Down, Gojira.
Symboise has a unique sound that has brought it a following in Norway and those fan numbers have grown substantially since their performance in the Emergenza Rock Festival moving them on to the next round.
Emergenza is the world's largest festival for unsigned bands, with concerts in more than 150 cities around the world. It features "up and coming bands from across the globe.There are elimination rounds in different countries throughout the year, whereby the bands that advance are selected by the audiences that hear them. Professional judges choose the winners at regional and final concerts.
