BEAVERTON, Ore. - Sept. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Beaverton, Oregon--Pilgrim Lutheran School(PLS) will be holding its 4th Annual School Jog-A-Thon on Friday, October 4th.   Children are asking for support for their school through pledges, and hope to surpass their $13,000 goal.  The 140 students of Pilgrim Lutheran School will jog and run to raise funds for their athletics programs, Art Literacy program, field trips, and other educational tools.

“Our Jog-A-Thon is an important fundraiser for our school and is needed to bridge what our annual auction raises to what is needed,” said Chris Herold, Principal at PLS.  Jogathon monies meet needs that are beyond the typical operational requirements of the school, and provide a resource to teachers to obtain useful tools identified in the current year, like the adoption of new educational tools.

“This year, we are hoping to raise seed money to hire a PE teacher for the elementary school,” said Mr. Herold.  “We want to add new uniforms and equipment for the school volleyball teams, add new uniforms and equipment for the school basketball teams, and uniforms and equipment for the school soccer teams.”

Last year, the students raised an astounding $15,000, which helped fund Apple iPads and Google Chrome Books used in classroom education.

“Our goal this year is to raise $13,000 with a bonus goal of $14,000,” noted Patricia Griffiths, PTL President.  “The prize for the bonus goal is a rock concert for the school, starring a rock band that will suspiciously resemble their teachers!”

Students will jog at their own pace, but that pace is typically a brisk jog to a run.  Parents, teachers, and staff encourage the joggers by cheering, handing out water cups and orange slices during the run, and fruit popsicles after the run.

Schedule:

Jogathon for preschool four-year-olds through eighth grade is Friday October 4 in three 20-minute events at the field north of school (at the Elsie Stuhr Center):

P4-1st grade 10:30-11am,

1st-4th grades 12:30,

5th-8th grades 1:30pm

Preschool three-year-olds will participate in a mini-Jogathon on Thursday October 3 at 10:30 am in the school gym.

Note:  If weather is inclement, the event will take place in the school gym.

Students raise money through flat-rate pledges, i.e., not based on distance or time jogged. Every student who raises at least $200 will receive a sports duffel bag in black and red (school colors) with the school logo. The class that raises the most funding will have a class party. The top fund-raiser in each grade will receive a $20 gift card, while the top pledge earner in the school will receive a $50 gift card.

“Tuition at the school is less than half of the tuition at other local private schools, so the difference in operating costs and tuition is covered in other ways, such as the annual school auction and annual Jogathon,” noted Patricia.

All pledges are tax deductible, and donations of cash, checks made payable to PLS and PayPal are accepted through the children or the school office.

Pledge envelopes are due Friday October 4th, however monies will be accepted through Friday, October 11th.  Come join the fun!
