Follow on Google News | Make A Play's Fall Clinics are in Session!By: Make A Play, Inc The Make A Play coaches go through 90 minute sessions with each level ranging from ages 5 to 18, teaching the kids dribbling, shooting, and passing skills. Competitive shooting drills are a must for each level, while the coaches take some time with each student to help perfect their craft. They go through offensive and defensive strategies to condition and train for about 30 minutes nonstop, and the higher the level, the range of difficulty increases. Excitement fills the kids when its scrimmage time, which generally happens during the last 20-30 minutes of their class. The scrimmages give the kids the opportunity to play with and against each other, 5-on-5, going hard with their defensive skills. The coaches reiterate plays and screens to make sure that each student understands the outcome and purpose of the play. Full court press is a must, since Coach Rafael believes in playing hard defense, which at the end wins the game. These sessions help build the students to prepare them for live games in tournaments, JV/varsity teams, and competitive streetball. The coaching staff’s tactics in teaching the kids on and off the court fundamentals of basketball are also informative and relative in the classroom. What the students will go home with after their 8-week session of clinics are discipline, determination, self-esteem, and strong work ethic. Their developed mentality of higher basketball IQ will keep them hyped about the game and play to push competitively. The Make A Play staff continues to assist their students, to drive them to their full potential and progress their ability in the sport of basketball.
