Follow on Google News | Jokes (The Band) Release Debut EPJokes (The Band) can be best summed up by 4 words and a hyphen: Self-Conscious Indie Rock. Their acutely observed and sharply self-aware lyrics are often married to disarmingly catchy guitar riffs to ensure that even if they are the bearers of bad news, you'll enjoy hearing it anyway. Formed in Summer 2012, Jokes (The Band) are the musical outlet of Bournemouth songwriter Ollie P. Mutter, formerly of Oscar’s Trash Can, and solo artist at the 2012 Dorset Music Awards. Their influences include other smart-alec indie rock luminaries such as Dinosaur Jr, The Moldy Peaches & They Might Be Giants. Jokes (The Band) mix witty, self-deprecating lyrics with noisy guitar hooks. The title track of their debut EP, Hi, My Name is Ollie, exhorts listeners to come up with their own lyrics if they think they can do better, while Self Esteem Train is 54 seconds and three chords of pure wordplay-based confidence building. Hi, My Name is Ollie, their debut EP recorded at The Burrow studio, will be released on 30th September through The Burrow BMTH. Jokes (The Band) will be playing at Chaplin’s Cellar Bar, Bournemouth on the day of release: Monday 30th September. www.facebook.com/ http://soundcloud.com/ End
