BAY SHORE, N.Y. - Sept. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Bay Shore, NY – ADRC’s Executive Director and CEO, Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, announced today that twenty-seven sites across Nassau and Suffolk will participate in the Center’s 2013/2014 Art Expression Program developed for individuals with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease.

ADRC has been coordinating this very special program since 2003. The program includes training for professional coordinators, with ongoing support throughout the program year. The program culminates with ADRC’s Annual Tea and Art Exhibit where the paintings created by the Alzheimer’s artists are on display.  Family friends and relatives are invited to the Annual event, and the event is open to the public.

“It is always amazing to see the completed artwork because in many cases our Alzheimer’s artists are unable to verbalize but are able to put  their thoughts, feelings and emotions into their artwork,” states Ms. Malack-Ragona. Ms. Malack-Ragona further states, “The purpose of the Art Expression Program is to stimulate the mind through creation, and strengthen self-esteem and relationships.” Individuals participating in the program work in small groups and in a non-judgmental environment where process is more important than the finished product.
