A collection of 28 short stories, the new book The Distant Dreams is a book that spans over three decades of the author’s government career. He bases his stories on the ethos of the people and places he visited around the globe. Most of the stories have Indian/Asian and African backgrounds, focusing on the rural populace.
The stories set in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, where the author worked for the International Monetary Fund, highlight the appalling conditions existing there in the 1990s. The new economic order resulted in no jobs, gas, or power in bitter winters. “I was amazed by the strong willpower and determination of the Georgians to survive in such harsh conditions.”
