And I am humbled by the depth, dedication, and level of musicianship that has been exhibited by our noteworthy teachers and students in preparing for this Gala Concert,” stated Klondike Steadman. “When we started the Orpheus Academy of Music back in 2003, our true desire was to enrich others’ lives through music. It has come as somewhat of a surprise at how much this community and its music have enriched our lives in return. We hope through this commemorative concert, we can say thank you to Austin.” Included in this unique anniversary concert is a multi-media performance called “Transformations” Another piece of interest will be Finlandia by Sibelius performed by the Honor Guitar Orchestra of the Orpheus Academy of Music. Finlandia - written for an 1899 covert Finnish protest targeted at Russia due to Russia’s systematic censorship of this autocratic grand duchy - became known as a symbolizing force in Finland’s struggle for independence from Russia. After its premiere, Finlandia was often renamed at Finnish concerts to evade censorship by the Russian empire of this nationalistic piece.
