Women Veterans ROCK! Names Diane Murray as Virginia State President

NORFOLK, Va. - Sept. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- The Women Veterans ROCK! Advocacy Campaign for Women Veterans and Military Families announced today that retired Chief Diane Murray has been appointed as The Women Veterans ROCK! Virginia State President.

Murray currently serves as a Local Veterans Employment Representative at the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC), a public employment service that assists employers in finding qualified workers and assists workers in finding suitable jobs.

“I understand the background and what Women Veterans have to endure,” says Murray, who retired from the United States Navy after 21 years of military service. “As a Women Veteran, I know it doesn’t matter where you are or where you’re from.  When I meet a Veteran, it’s like they’re family and I want to do right by them.”

Over the past three months, Virginia’s unemployment rate has experienced a consecutive monthly increase.  One of Murray’s primary initiatives at the VEC is the Women Veterans Service Workshop Series which provides Women Veterans who are seeking employment resources the opportunity to meet with a variety of service providers in a supportive, gender-sensitive environment.

As part of its new partnership, the Virginia Employment Commission will host two workshops specifically for Veterans and Military Families in the Norfolk area: the Veterans Improvement Program on Friday, September 27, and a Women Veterans Service Workshop entitled, “Show Me The Money” on Wednesday, October 9.

Women Veterans who attend theses workshops will have the opportunity to submit an advanced registration for the free Women Veterans ROCK! Rally and Veterans Day Celebration scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2013 at The ARC Theater of Performing Arts located at 1901 Mississippi Avenue S.E., Washington, D.C. 20020.

"I am excited about the opportunity to meet Women Veterans and other military women at the Virginia Employment Commission Women Veterans Workshop,” says Deborah Harmon-Pugh, Campaign Chair of the Women Veterans ROCK! Advocacy Campaign.

“I applaud the VEC for its passion and dedication to this important endeavor,” asserts Harmon-Pugh.  “The Virginia Employment Commission continues to demonstrate its commitment to military women through programs like the Women Veterans Service Workshop Series and Women Veterans ROCK! is honored to join them in providing Women Veterans and Military Families with the tools and resources they need to succeed in civilian life."

Admission to the Women Veterans ROCK! Rally and Veterans Day Celebration on November 11 is free, but advanced registration is required.  Women Veterans and Military Families can visit womenvetsrock2013.eventbrite.com for registration information.
