BALTIMORE - Sept. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- The Faith Center for Community Wellness and Advancement, Inc. won out over several proposals submitted to the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities (MHHD) in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) Department.  A $75,000 FY14 Demonstration Program was issued to the Faith Center for Baltimore City based on the high number of minority adult cardiovascular disease deaths that occur in the city. Opening day events began on September 7 with a community day and health fair in the parking lot of Wilkens Avenue Mennonite Church, 1616 Wilkens Avenue, 2-6 pm. The public was invited for a full day of  fun-filled activities for the entire family  featuring music, children’s games, moonbounce, and food. Medical screenings were provided free of charge.

The Faith Center, formed in 2002, is a 501 (c) (3) faith-based, non-profit organization founded on Christian principles and beliefs.  It seeks to empower and improve the quality of life for the residents of Southwest Baltimore through holistic approaches.

For the past ten years, the Faith Center and Miracle Temple Church have developed an intimate relationship with the Southwest Baltimore community through providing a number of community service activities.  The Faith Center's annual health fairs, community clean-ups, clothing give-a-ways, and smoking cessation and addiction classes strengthened the bond with the community. Miracle Temple's  Meals on Wheels ministry has fed hundreds in the community and its Kidz Nite Inn events took scores of youth ages 3-16 off the streets. Outreach to local nursing homes, hospital visitations, and numerous other outreach ministries facilitated community partnerships and natural collaborations that improved the lives of youth and families in the Southwest Baltimore community.
