The FTSE 100 index experienced an increase of 6.5% in July alone, whilst the FTSE 250 index rose by just under 8%. FTSE SmallCap also experience growth, with an increase in 6.3%. Despite this, caution remains, with China’s slowing economic growth and the continuing problems being experienced in the Eurozone.
UK profit warnings reported by Earnest & Young fell during Q2 of 2013 to their lowest level since 2011, with reported warnings falling to 54 (compared to 72 in Q1). Sectors with high profit warnings included software & computer services, travel & leisure and electronics & electrical equipment. Construction and retail sectors show signs of improvement.
Oxfordshire based financial advisers Expert Wealth Management are optimistic about the signs of growth in investor sentiment, although they stress that this is a modest recovery, and should be treated as such.
