BELTON, Texas - Sept. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Belton, TX - Hope for the Hungry has been host to six Trails of Hope Races at the Hope for the Hungry campus in the Belton Business Park. Hope for the Hungry has joined forces with the Miller Springs Alliance to launch the first ever trail race at the historic Miller Springs Park & Nature Center, the "Trails of Hope @ Miller Springs: 5 Mile Trail Race". The proceeds from the race will go to support both Belton based nonprofit organizations.

The park at Miller Springs was created with the construction of the Lake Belton Dam on the Leon River in 1954. Following a major flood in 1992 the landscape and face of Miller Springs was forever changed. The Miller Springs Alliance was formed to rebuild and restore the park with improved trails and to help preserve the park. A small focused group of volunteers work to keep the park family friendly with over 10 miles of trails. Over the last year, the alliance has been hard at work to improve the trails and blaze ten color-coded loops to allow the community to hike, bike and run this beautiful, scenic park. Whether your interest is exercise, a fun family outing or to study the geology and flora of Miller Springs, this park is a gem in Bell County.

According to Jeff Pedigo, Director of Public Relations at Hope for the Hungry, "Putting on a race at Miller Springs made perfect sense to expand the Trails of Hope races. After months of planning, both Hope for the Hungry and the Miller Springs Alliance believe we have created a great race at a great venue which will hopefully become an annual favorite for folks throughout Central Texas."

Pre-registration is still open for the Trails of Hope @ Miller Springs until September 25th for $35. Race day registration will also available for $40 from 6:00am to 7:15am. Registrants will get a dri-fit shirt (while supplies last) plus a swag bag with tons of goodies and plenty of door prizes. The Trails of Hope @ Miller Springs: 5 Mile Trail Race is sponsored in part by local businesses including: Vista Real Estate, Ashford Homes, Ryan C. Fowler, MD. King's Daughters Clinic, Pattillo, Brown & Hill, LLP, Powerhouse Cheer & Fitness, Sit Means Sit Dog Training, First Community Mortgage, Texas A&M University - Central Texas, Michael J. Magana Attorney at Law, and Tri-City Bicycles. Proceeds from the race will go to support Hope for the Hungry and the Miller Springs Alliance.

Awards will be given to the overall male and female runners, as well as the top three in each age group. There will be additional prizes and giveaways at the race.

Parking, race-day registration and packet pick-up will begin at 6:00 a.m. and go until 7:15 a.m. at the pavilion near the Dead Fish Grill at Lake Belton. We will provide shuttles to transport runners to and from the start/ finish line.
