Washington, D.C.--Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) continues their “Educate Congress Campaign” this week at approximately 200 Congressional offices in home districts and on Capitol Hill. This will be the sixth consecutive month of action at more than 150 Congressional offices.

This month, PDA activists will tell legislators to support diplomacy by cosponsoring Congresswoman Barbara Lee's H.Con.Res. 53: "Urging all parties to the conflict in Syria to work through the United Nations and with the international community to hold the Assad regime accountable and resolve the crisis in Syria through a negotiated political settlement," and ask legislators to vote against “Fast Track” for the Trans-Pacific Partnership, oppose the TPP, and only support agreements that are negotiated openly and vetted fully by the Congress and the public.

PDA National Director, Tim Carpenter said, “The American people have spoken clearly: we support forceful diplomacy, not a military strike against Syria. Fortunately, the President has decided to delay the authorization for use of military force votes in Congress, and is taking promising steps seeking a diplomatic solution. America cannot afford to risk involvement in yet another armed conflict. We urge all Members of Congress to support diplomacy by cosponsoring Congresswoman Lee's H.Con.Res. 53.”

Carpenter explained, “The negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) have been conducted in secret--without Congressional or public participation. ‘Fast Track’ authority would put the President, not Congress, in control of the legislative process. Trade officials revealed that the TPP would give foreign entities wide and unprecedented power to file claims against us over any regulations and laws they claim might infringe on profitability--attacking protections for the environment, employees, and consumers. This is unacceptable. We need full debate, committee review, and public input on this agreement that goes far beyond trade issues. We call upon Congress to vote against ‘fast track’ authority and to reject the TPP.”

Progressive Democrats of America is a federal PAC, founded in 2004 to transform American politics and reform the Democratic Party to focus on principles including: economic and social justice; environmental protection; healthcare as a human right; ending corporate rule; election integrity; fair‚ not "free" trade; equality for all; and ending wars and occupations.
