Wow! This book was even more amazing than I expected it to be. This story is about a reindeer who desperately wants to prove to his herd that he is capable of being trustworthy and reliable. I loved the beautiful illustrations in this book as they look amazing in landscape mode.  I cannot say enough about how great this book is! This is a perfect learning tool for children as an introduction to reindeer migration and the Norwegian culture. I love the way this book is arranged. The story is longer than a lot of other picture books for children, but it is such a great story it held my children's attention for the duration. I would highly recommend this book to any parent with kids under 12. At the end of the book there are further materials for learning. Awesome!

Inger is a white reindeer who is given a few opportunities to shine, but each time something happens and he ends up embarrassed and a bit of an outcast. He has another chance to prove himself by helping two older reindeer, and even makes a significant sacrifice. The illustrations are just lovely - I enjoyed the depictions of traditional Norwegian attire and references to culture (Spring Festival, wedding, reindeer herding, etc.) as much as the story itself. There is also additional information about the region and its people at the end.

Jami Parkison, a native of Kentucky, now lives in Kansas City, Missouri, where she works as a writer and publisher.  For more than twenty years, her essays and articles have appeared in journals and popular magazines in the United States and Great Britain.  Parkison is the author of several adult books, including one about the Santa Fe Trail.  She is also president of Acorn Books, publishers of The Great Heartlanders Series of biographies for children.  Her books published by JOAN’S eBOOKS LLC include Inger’s Promise, Amazing Mallika and Pequena the Burro.



ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR

Andra Chase was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she attended the John McCrady Art School.  She now lives in Kansas, where she has continued her study of art and art history and has worked as an illustrator and designer of printed media.  Her paintings have been exhibited in juried and solo shows throughout the Midwest.  Chase is a longtime bird fancier and nature lover with almost two decades’ experience painting the Kansas landscape
