Follow on Google News | The Crystal Lake Alpaca Farm Celebrates National Alpaca Farm DayOn Saturday, September 28, the Crystal Lake Alpaca Farm will celebrate National Alpaca Farm Day
“This is our 3rd annual celebration of National Farm Day and we expect this year to be better than ever,” said Chris Nelson, co-owner of the Crystal Lake Alpaca Farm and Boutique. “Alpacas are very unique and lovable animals and this event allows us to inform our visitors about how truly amazing they are. Alpaca fleece is warmer than wool, softer than cashmere and it doesn’t itch, and we can’t wait for everyone to discover this themselves on farm day!” The Crystal Lake Alpaca Farm was established in 2001 with a herd of six alpacas, and has grown to a herd of over 40, many of which have been recognized nationally for their quality of fleece. The farm was honored as the 2013 National Small Breeder of the Year and was recognized as the 2012 Reserve Small Breeder of the Year last year. The farm’s goal is to raise healthy alpacas with the most elite, fine and dense fleece possible. In Spring 2012, the farm opened the Crystal Lake Alpaca Boutique. One of the farm’s barns was refurbished by the family into a beautiful store using wood from their very own woods. The boutique carries a variety of alpaca products including hats, mittens, scarves, neck warmers, the famous alpaca socks, sweaters, stuffed animals and much more. Alpacas, cousins to the llama, are native to the Andean Mountain range of South America, particularly Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. The United States first commercially imported alpacas in 1984. There are now over 160,000 registered alpacas in North America.
