Follow on Google News | Spreck Rosekrans Named Executive Director of Restore Hetch HetchyRenowned expert in water policy, leader in conservation/restoration issues, and veteran of Environmental Defense Fund to continue mission to Restore Yosemite’s Hetch Hetchy Valley with initiatives/campaigns on multiple fronts
By: Restore Hetch Hetchy “Mike Marshall has been a dynamic, creative and inspirational leader for Restore Hetch Hetchy, dramatically raising the profile of our campaign in San Francisco and nationally, and hugely building our fundraising base and organizational capabilities,” Rosekrans has been RHH’s Director of Policy since January 2012. Previously, he spent more than 20 years at the Environmental Defense Fund, working with water agencies, electric utilities, Indian tribes and conservationists to improve native fisheries and wetland habitat in the Grand Canyon, on the Trinity River and in California’s Central Valley. In addition, Rosekrans has provided expert testimony in Federal Court, at the State Legislature, and before the State Water Resources Control Board. Rosekrans was a founding board member of Restore Hetch Hetchy and the lead author of the Environmental Defense Fund’s groundbreaking report: “Paradise Regained: Solutions for Restoring Yosemite’s Hetch Hetchy Valley,” which successfully showed that San Francisco would still be able to access reliable high quality Tuolumne River supplies when Hetch Hetchy Valley is restored. “As a conservationist, Spreck brings both an unbridled passion for the natural world and the practical knowledge of real-world water and power solutions to the job,” said Doug Wheeler, former Secretary of Resources for California and a member of RHH’s National Advisory Committee. “That is just the combination that Restore Hetch Hetchy needs.” “I am honored to succeed Mike at Restore Hetch Hetchy. I look forward to building on the past year’s momentum and taking our campaign to the next level” said Rosekrans. “We are fortunate to have so many dedicated supporters who understand the importance of our mission. Restoration will not only make Yosemite National Park whole once again, but it will inspire people throughout California, across the United States and around the world to protect and restore the most special places in their own communities.” The mission of Restore Hetch Hetchy is to return the Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park to its natural splendor - while continuing to meet the water and power needs of all communities that depend on the Tuolumne River.
