Latin Jazz Makes Its Debut For The Kick-off of Emmanuel Baptist Church Jazz Vespers’ Second Season.

(BROOKLYN, NEW YORK- September 12, 2013):
While the weather may be cooling off, Emmanuel Baptist Church is keeping the heat going with The Steven Kroon Latin Jazz Sextet for its September Jazz Vespers. It will take place in its standing home at the historic Emmanuel Baptist Church, 279 Lafayette Avenue, located in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, New York, on September 29, 2013 at 3:00 PM.

The recurrent theme of the Jazz Vespers is: “Experience the Presence of God Through the Sounds of Jazz.” This upcoming Jazz Vespers features the Steven Kroon Latin Jazz Sextet consisting of the well-respected and widely-known Steven Kroon (Percussionist), Igor Atalita (Piano), Ruben Rodriguez (Bass), Bryan Carrott (Vibraphone), Craig River (Sax & Flute), Diego Lopez (Drum). In addition, they have added the Broadway-renowned Lillias White (Vocals), who has appeared in FELA! and Chicago, to their line-up as a special performer.

Currently in its second year, the Jazz Vespers series has built a following of jazz lovers around New York City and Brooklyn, and continues to secure well-respected jazz musicians that bring an unmistakable feeling of celebration for God and the jazz art form. At each Vespers, the unexpected is bound to happen from impromptu performances with other artists sitting in the audience to those moved by the spirit dancing in the aisles. With artists expressing themselves both through passionate singing and instrumentation, everyone leaves uplifted, fulfilled, and eagerly awaiting the next Vespers.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for everyone from our New York City community to worship in a relaxed setting and find God in the spacious freedom of jazz music.  It is a musical tradition that gives us a voice to the hopes, dreams, frustrations and pain that expresses the human experience. Simply put, Jazz is the musical incense that collects and carries the prayers of a people,”stated Reverend Anthony L. Trufant, Senior Pastor, Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Emmanuel Baptist Church’s Jazz Vespers performances are typically held on every 5th Sunday, with special editions added occasionally. For more information on Emmanuel Baptist Church Jazz Vespers and to register, go to http://www.ebcconnects.com/jazz-vespers.
