BOISE, Idaho - Sept. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Bogus Brewing puts a new twist on the big business of beer with the first ever community-owned brewery which is offering Idaho investors more than just a taste of hoppy success. Having exceeded their minimum investment goal at the end of August with $280,000 raised from 128 investors in an Idaho Public Offering, Bogus Brewing is primed to take a bite out of the big beer giants and is welcoming more beer lovers/investors along for the ride.

“There are a lot of reasons to be excited about craft beer in Idaho,” Collin Rudeen, Chief Brewing Officer, explains. “The industry is exploding and Boise has a long way to go just to catch up to similar cities when it comes to the number of breweries per capita.”

Bogus is accepting new investors through the end of the year and Rudeen said, “We wanted to be a compelling investment to everyone from sophisticated investors to your average craft beer drinker.” Bogus currently has investments ranging all the way from $1,000 (the minimum) to $30,000.

Being a brewery, there are naturally a few liquid perks in addition to the potential financial benefits of ownership. Investors are included in the beer of the month club for as long as they hold the stock; have a mug with their name on it at the brewery; and get first-taste of new brews before they’re available to the general public.

The brewery is located at 521 W Broad St., right next to the Boise Weekly and kitty-corner from the new Trader Joe’s, just east of BoDo.

“Finding a location that people could walk and bike to and relax for a pint, while satisfying the industrial requirements of a production brewery was a real challenge,” explains Rudeen. “Our new home is absolutely everything we could have hoped for.”

The building is 4,000 square feet and Bogus Brewing will begin adding garage doors, upgrading electrical service and installing equipment as soon as building permits are approved.

Bogus Brewing used a SCOR (Small Company Offering Registration) offering to raise their funds. It is a program through the Department of Finance that allows small companies to publicly offer stock exclusively to Idaho investors. It allows the company flexible terms without a prohibitive amount of fees or paperwork.

“SCOR offerings really work for companies that have local customers/users,” said Rick Ritter, CEO of IdahoTechConnect. “It’s really interest-group fundraising. In Collin’s case, there are a lot of people that like to drink beer in the affinity group or natural ‘tribes,’ as Seth Godin [business author] calls them, that form around the concept to make it successful. A large number of people understand the concept and want to be involved.”
