After receiving his law degree, Attorney Stoffa worked as staff counsel for the State Compensation Fund during the 1970s. Today, this entity is SCF Arizona, the state’s largest worker’s compensation insurance provider. The lawyer next moved into the role of partner and shareholder of O’Connor Cavanagh, and he also served as partner and co-founder of Cross & Lieberman—a position he held until September 2001. From 2001 through the end of 2008, the attorney represented provided legal services as the Law Offices of J. V. Stoffa. The lawyer then switched gears, working as an Administrative Law Judge of the Industrial Commission of Arizona from 2009 to 2012. The Industrial Commission of Arizona is the state agency that holds the responsibility of enforcing Arizona laws that are related to workers’ compensation, payment and wages, occupational safety and health and other areas that have to do with the wellbeing and safety of Arizona workers. Through his career, Mr. Stoffa has been successful in obtaining more than 75 published opinions through the litigation of appellate cases.
Mr. Stoffa co-founded the Arizona Compensation Defense Counsel Association and has served as a past president for the organization. This group later turned into the Arizona Defense Counsel Association’
While Attorney Stoffa is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, he moved to Arizona and has spent a great portion of his life in this state. He went to high school in Phoenix and graduated from Arizona State University before attending law school at the University of Arizona College of Law. At his law school, Mr. Stoffa was given the honor of being the 1969 Morris K. Udall scholar.
