Cubamerican, nominated for “Best Documentary” by the Imagen Award Foundation, celebrated a successful premiere in Palm Beach September 6th, 2013 at the Harriet Himmel Theatre. The screening attracted over 400 attendees, requiring the actual screening to be moved to the larger Muvico Theatre next door. Academy Award nominee Andy Garcia; Chairman Trinity Yachts Felix Sabates; President of Miami Dade College Dr. Eduardo Padron; world-renowned sculptor Jorge Pardo; Yale University Professor Carlos Eire; Grammy-award winning producer and musician Gonzalo Rubalcaba; Prima ballerinas of the Boston Ballet Lorna and Lorena Feijoo were among the Cuban luminaries interviewed in the film.

The creator and director of the film, Jose Enrique Pardo, attended the premier, as well as the editor and composer, Victor and Carlos Alvarez, brothers whom are native to West Palm Beach. Kadir Nieves Lopez, internationally renowned Cuban artist, made a special appearance while in South Florida as artist-in-residence at the highly acclaimed Palm Beach Photographic Centre.

The Premier of Cubamerican at the Harriet Himmel not only featured the awe-inspiring film, but the celebration highlights included with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and live Cuban music, followed by the after party at Nick and Johnnies Restaurant in Palm Beach.

Cubamerican is a pro-immigrant story, spanning the past 60 years of Cuban history, and evokes universal themes of loss, freedom, assimilation, struggle and triumph through the stories of Cuban exiles that have achieved acclaim in diverse fields in the U.S.A. and beyond, rendering a mosaic of a bittersweet exile experience. The film has had major success in cities such as Miami and San Jose and will continue screening across major cities in the US.

Hans Morgenstern from the Miami New Times calls Cubamerican, “A beautifully assembled documentary that should not be reserved for only Cubans but also the Americans who live with them.”
