The Best Referral Ever - Out of the Blue!

HAMILTON, N.J. - Sept. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- A funny thing happened to me the other day.  A woman call me on my cell phone looking for a used 2012 Volkswagen Touareg with very specific equipment and in Night Blue with a Saddle Brown Interior.  Why was this odd?

I don't sell cars anymore, not since 2005 when I started building BDC's for dealerships.
I did however have two Volkswagen stores at my previous tour of duty as E-Commerce Director.
How did she get my cell phone number?  I had to ask.

She explained that although she was holding a truck at a Volkswagen Dealership, but they decided to sell it to someone else the day before.  I asked her the name of the dealership, it was over 150 miles west of me!  The dealerships I had are at least 50 miles east of me.

So I asked how did you get my name.  She said she was a friend of someone who was the sister-in-law of a guy whose mother was a customer of mine when I was selling Jaguars for Cherry Hill Jaguar. I hold sold her and her late husbands cars until 2005.

I was flattered.  I told her I would call her back.  Called one of my old Volkswagen stores, talked to the General Sales Manager, and give him her information.  I told him she would call in about 10 minutes.  Called her back, and told her that he had a truck that was close a few extra "bells and whistles", but in her price range, and gave her his number.  She drove 200 miles the next day and picked up the truck.  Success!

The power of the referral.  The power of making a lasting impression of your clientele and their families!   And finally a General Sales Manager that I could trust to do the right thing!  I love the car business!
