MANCHESTER, U.K. - Sept. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Lockir is a platform that combines features of social networks and study sites to create a student exclusive community.

The revolution idea is inspired by parents that have made Facebook not cool which used to be for students only in its early days, the revolutionary Che Guevarra can be seen on the homepage to head the campaign for Lockir. The name Lockir is inspired by the idea of college lockers.

The platform provides many features which distinguish it from other platforms such as Facebook, these features include;

A Discuss page which allows students to ask and answer questions, this will be peer to peer help allowing students to rate answers and gain a reputation score.

Sharing word and pdf documents such as class notes and exam papers.

Writing notes through a word processing tool and sharing them with others for group projects.

Lockir also has the usual social features which you would expect from top social platforms, these include; music sharing through YouTube, photo sharing, chatting and meeting new people. Students can also chat to their Facebook friends directly from Lockir without having to leave the site.

Lockir signups will be restricted to school email only. It will start by opening to all students for 5 days and then it will be closed to allow University of Manchester signups only. New schools will be added one at a time.

Upon signup users choose a Locker Number they would like, this number will be unique to them and they can use it as a username for quick login or use it to find friends quickly.

Jay Amlesh (CEO) said "Students are the biggest users of social networks, yet there isn't a social network for them. Having mum, dad, or grandparents creates awkward moments on Facebook that prevents you from being yourself, and so a bunch of us students have decided to make an online community where students feel at home. A place where they can meet others and study together with the privacy to feel comfortable."

Lockir was created by a group of students from the University of Manchester at the university library. The students are mostly undergrads, however the CEO has a BSc and an MSc from the university, and has recently been offered a place for a PhD. Lockir has been accepted as a Microsoft Bizspark company.
It has been running in Beta since May 2013 with over 300 students and has been launched today 16th September to mark the start of the new school year.
