Gold Coast Hospital Receives Award for Innovative use of their Intranet Connections Software

Gold Coast Hospital recently received commendation from the 2013 Intranet Innovation Awards for their innovative use of their intranet software, powered by Intranet Connections.

NORTH VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Sept. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Gold Coast Hospital Emergency Department has recently received a commendation from the 2013 Intranet Innovation Awards for their ground breaking use of Intranet Connections, a leading provider of out of the box intranet software.  Gold Coast won their award for using their intranet software, dubbed “EmergencyWeb” to improve patient care, reduce hospital costs, enhance employee training and increase staff engagement.

The Emergency Department of Gold Coast Hospital, located in Australia, has set up a variety of different intranet applications within their Intranet Connections software in order to assist them in their day-to-day hospital operations.  These include an application to record intern assessments, a collaborative learning application and an online patient referral system. Gold Coast allows patients who fit specific criteria to begin their treatment in the ER and then continue their care at home within a few hours with the assistance of a “Home Care Team”.  A process was created on their intranet to securely enter patient information onto an online intranet form for the Home Care Team to track, which has made for a smoother transition process.

Leo Marneros, Director of Emergency Medical Training at Gold Coast Hospital Emergency Department was drawn to simplicity and ease of use when selecting business-based intranet software. He notes “we had many intranet users, from people who were reasonably intranet savvy, to people who weren’t sure what side of the mouse to hold, so it had to work for everyone.  On our previous intranet I was the content manager and producer, but the Intranet Connections software allowed me to divide and delegate a lot of that amongst our staff.”

This employee intranet collaboration has allowed Gold Coast to build some amazing applications and to use their software in ways which have provided significant benefits for the organization overall.  The main areas which Gold Coast is commended for in the report include:

Improving Internal Processes
An intern assessments intranet application has significantly reduced the time and increased the accuracy of the assessment process, resulting in huge cost savings

Improving Patient Care
A move from paper-based to online electronic referral forms has reduced the amount of time a patient must remain in hospital

Increasing Staff Engagement
An intranet kudos application allows employees to give each other nominations for a job well done

Reducing Costs
The intranet has paid for itself several times over with the many benefits it has provided.  The intern assessments application alone has totaled time cost savings of approximately $10,000AUD per year
