ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Sept. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Internationally known bestselling author John Jakes will be honored at the Florida Heritage Book Festival’s Literary Legends Banquet to mark the literary event’s sixth year. Join him at St. Johns County Convention Center, World Golf Village Resort, on Friday, September 27, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. The banquet is open to the public and ticket information is available at http://fhbookfest.com/.

“This is exciting news for us,” Kathy Dvornick, founder and Festival executive director, says. “Not only is John Jakes the master of historical fiction, he elevates our Book Festival to a whole new level of importance.” Along with the banquet, there will be a silent auction and an opportunity to meet and talk with Jakes. Now based in Florida, Jakes produced many New York Times bestsellers such as “Savannah,” “North and South,” “Kent Family Chronicles” and “Charleston.”

John Jakes’ career exemplifies the term “Literary Legend.” Not only did he have 18 consecutive New York Times bestsellers, two of his book series were made into highly rated television series. Spanning 50 years, Jakes has written hundreds of short stories, mysteries, Westerns and science-fiction novels.

The Florida Heritage Book Festival and Writers Conference has expanded from a single day of author presentations to a three-day, multifaceted event held at two locations. Starting Thursday, September 26 at World Golf Village Resort in St. Augustine, there is a two-day writers conference capped off by the Literary Legends Banquet on Friday evening. On Saturday, the Festival moves to downtown St. Augustine’s Flagler College at the Ringhaver Student Center, for a full day of talks and book signings by bestselling authors. The Festival Marketplace is open all day, with publishers, authors and booksellers offering book-related items as well as prize drawings. Saturday is all fun, all about books and all free; and of course, open to the public. Free transportation from the city parking garage will be available on Saturday, courtesy of Old Town Trolley Tours.

The Florida Heritage Book Festival is a volunteer effort, with broad-based community and business sponsorship. A nonprofit organization, the Festival supports its local community by donating its proceeds to the Friends of the Libraries of St. Johns County and The St. Augustine Record News In Education program.
