KATONAH, N.Y. - Sept. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- KATONAH, NY –  Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts presents the 2013 Fall Festival, on October 4th  and 5th, with back-to-back evenings of concerts. The Festival kicks off on Friday, October 4th at 8 p.m. in the Spanish Courtyard with Jazz in the Courtyard: Sonidos Latinos. The “hot Havana night” begins with the dynamic Chuchito Valdés Trio. Mr. Valdés, a returning favorite who has built a name for himself grounded in heat, force, and explosive Cuban musical traditions, will be joined by drummer Rafael Monteagudo and clarinetist Jason W. Marshall. The double-bill continues with Colombian harpist Edmar Castañeda, and Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba – a Grammy® Award-winning musician with “almost supernatural abilities” (The New York Times). This percussive duo will deliver a new wave of Latin colors with its unusual blend of electric harp and acoustic grand piano.

On Saturday, October 5th, prior to the performance, Honorary Event Chair Richard Gere and Caramoor invite guests to join them at the Harvest Dinner; a benefit for music and culture. The evening begins with cocktails at 5:30pm, followed by a special dinner prepared by Bedford Post’s Executive Chef Jeremy McMillan at 6:15pm.

At 8 p.m. in the Venetian Theater, The Knights return to Caramoor for their first appearance since the Caramoor Fall Festival of 2010. The program revisits the concept of the concerto grosso, from the elegant counterpoint of J.S. Bach to the New York Premiere of Concerto for Santur and Violin by violinist/composer Colin Jacobsen and fellow Silk Road Ensemble member virtuoso Siamak Aghaei. Opening with a piece by Steve Reich, the orchestra will juxtapose Dumbarton Oaks—Igor Stravinsky’s homage to Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3—with works by Bach and Haydn that inspired Stravinsky. The Knights’ unique style of diverse programming concludes with …the ground beneath our feet – a fusion of Baroque counterpoint and “modern” Brooklyn, composed by The Knights, combining a party atmosphere with the repeated bass line of the chaconne, a tradition that dates back to the 17th century.
