SINGLES:  FIGHTING TO KEEP THE FAMILY MODEL ALIVE

Singles in Hampton Roads take action to change the appalling marriage statistics and uphold the “Virginia is for Lovers” slogan.

The Hampton Roads Singles population is fighting to keep stability in their homes and uphold the virtue of family. The rising death of our youth and the violence in our cities is due to broken homes caused by single parent households. Singles are taking action by being more responsible in choosing their mate and upholding their vows. Deciding to first gather skills for marriage and taking a stand to wait before jumping into the “I Do”.

According to the 2010 Census Bureau statistics the single parent home has doubled in the U.S. making broken families due to divorce and squabbling parents a ripe environment for emotional unstable youth who act out their resentment violently in the community.  President Obama voiced his concern for fatherless homes by saying, “I have tried to be for Michelle and my girls what my father was not for my mother and me. I want to break the cycle.”

Singles are taking a stand for their communities by addressing the core issue of protecting marriage and family in turn doing their part in decreasing the juvenile delinquency rate. By attending the SHIFTING GEARS singles conference, families have a better chance of staying intact by individuals gaining knowledge to establish strong marital relationships. “Our youth are most vulnerable where fathers are absent and mothers are struggling.” Alasha Bennett, The Dating Mechanic
