New insulinpumps.ca Website Aims to Power Pumpers Through Pharmacies

OAKVILLE, Ontario - Sept. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Oakville, Ont. - Insulin pumpers across Canada will have a new online resource they can use to make more informed decisions about insulin pump therapy and buying their diabetes products.

The home page will regularly feature innovative products and promotions, conduct ongoing public surveys and contains a live Twitter feed that directs visitors to useful information about pump therapy and diabetes.

In addition to a catalogue of popular products, the site has a Pharmacy Locator where people can easily find a pharmacy near them that sells items such as infusion sets, inserters, reservoirs, pen needles, injection ports and glucose sensors.

Hellstern explains pharmacies are the key to her company’s service approach, because everyone with diabetes visits their pharmacy regularly for essentials like insulin, syringes and diabetes medications. The other reason is that many people have strong relationships with their pharmacists, who consistently rank among the most trusted professionals.

The formation of insulinpumps.ca can be traced back to the personal frustrations Hellstern experienced when her 9-year-old had problems with his infusion set. She didn’t know about the alternatives, since at the time insulin pump supplies were largely sold by pump manufacturers – who sold only their own brands of products. After joining a parent support group and learning about her options, she eventually became a sales representative for the company that made her son’s new infusion sets. This eventually led her to start her own company.
