The COACH Summer Clothing Drive for our Kids

BEDFORDVIEW, South Africa - Sept. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Coach is a non-profit organisation that helps children, who have had a troubled start in life, to grow into happy and productive members of our society. We manage three children’s homes (St George’s, St Joseph’s and St Nicolas) in Gauteng. All the children placed in our care are placed with us in terms of Children’s Court orders. Our homes are located in Kempton Park, Sophiatown and Westbury. In these communities we help support the needs of troubled families and children.

Two of our homes (St Nicolas and St Joseph’s) work with younger Children. Here we provide a caring, stable, home environment with a house mother who is assisted by trained social work professionals. Our goal is to create a happy home where kids can learn and grow together. All the children attend local schools and participate in chores at the house. This encompasses a sense of responsibility in the children.

St George’s Home based in Kempton Park, is for older children – youth between the ages of 16 to 18 years – and gives youth a chance in life where they have not been able to grow in a stable and caring environment. In addition to intensive therapies, the programme gives them the opportunity and means to develop independence and a promising future. This is particularly important in South Africa, where thousands of young people are entering the criminal justice system each year.

In the past three years we have noticed significant changes in the corporate social investment sector and it is becoming increasingly difficult to raise funds from traditional methods. In order to overcome this challenge, COACH has taken an approach to request for more donations in kind from corporates and individuals. This also reduces our budget significantly, allowing us to render the proper services to our children.

This time of year, we appeal to everyone for summer clothing. Currently there are 60 children in our care. Good condition items that can be donated are, t-shirts and jeans for boys and girls, tops and dresses for girls, skirts for girls, shorts for boys and girls. Sizes include: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, small, medium and large.
