Alzheimer's Association's Fall Training To Focus On Enhancing Care

IRVINE, Calif. - Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- The Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County (AAOC) is hosting a free interactive training session to equip professional and family caregivers with vital skills needed to care for individuals with Alzheimer’s and related forms of dementia. The training session entitled “Enhancing Dementia Care: Knowing the Person Better than the Disease” will be hosted on four separate dates at Orange County locations throughout the fall beginning September 6.

The interactive training will help caregivers make stronger connections by focusing on the individual rather than the illness or lost abilities. This “person-centered” approach to care leverages the individual’s unique strengths and interests to improve care giving interactions.

Sponsored by Meridian Senior Living and Huntington Terrace, the fall training session will be held at the following Orange County locations:

Clifton C. Miller Community Center, Tustin: Sept. 6, 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Norman P. Murray Community Center, Mission Viejo: Sept. 24, 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Buena Park Senior Activity Center, Buena Park: Oct. 9, 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Grace Lutheran Church, Huntington Beach: Oct. 18, 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The free training sessions are open to caregivers, healthcare professionals, senior care professionals, families and loved ones. Participants will receive 4 CEUs. Additional sessions focusing on new topics will follow in the winter, spring and summer.
