PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. - Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Wish your name or business name could be your phone number?  Well, there’s an app for that!

It’s a known fact that words are plain easier to remember than numbers.  So for that very reason, one South Florida tech company is launching an app that will let you turn your existing phone number into a memorable word that your friends or customers will never forget.  They’re called Call-Signs, and they could forever change the way we refer to phone numbers.

Did you know that the domain name Facebook.com is just a memorable nickname for thier real website address, which is really 31.13.73.1?  That’s right, every web address is really a unique string of numbers that a unique domain name ‘points to’.  Domain names were created because Internet developers thought we could never remember a numeric address for every website we wanted to visit.  Thankfully, they knew that words were easier to remember than numbers.

So just as domain names are nicknames for websites, Call-Signs are nicknames for telephone numbers.  Smartphone users can now call you just by dialing your memorable Call-Sign into the free app.  For instance, if you register the Call-Sign JOHN, your smartphone friends can call your existing phone number simply by dialing JOHN into the free Call-Signs app.

Mike McManigal, CEO and Founder of Call-Signs, said, “Almost all of your friends or customers are smartphone users, so why not give them a phone number they’ll never forget?  What’s easier to remember, John’s real phone number, or the memorable Call-Sign JOHN?  Call-Signs can’t replace your real phone number, but they can make them unforgettable.”

McManigal created Call-Signs after working with AT&T and owning many 1-800 vanity numbers.  He said, “I’ve always had a huge interest in vanity numbers, and I always wanted to find a way that everyone could have any vanity number they desired.  Once smartphones took off, I knew I could make Call-Signs happen.”  Soon after launching the company, Call-Signs was selected into Incubate Miami, a technology incubator program.  There they helped McManigal launch a test version of his app which yielded nearly 5,000 registered Call-Signs, all with no advertising.

The official version of Call-Signs is now available for iPhone and Android users.  The app is free to download, and is free for smartphone users to dial any Call-Sign.  The app can also be used to register personal Call-Signs for .99 a year, and to register business Call-Signs for $4.99 a year.  Your totally unique Call-Sign can be your name, nickname, business name, or anything you desire.  And since Call-Signs are dialed with a keyboard, a Call-Sign can be any keyboard character, and any length.

McManigal said, “Everyone that registers their own Call-Sign, essentially has their very own vanity phone number for life.  And if your real phone number ever changes, you can simply update Call-Signs ‘point-to’ number.  It’s totally unique, so get your desired Call-Sign before somebody else does!”
