DELHI, India - Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- On the occasion of Literacy Day, Lt. Gen. Rajender Singh (Retd.), CEO, DLF Foundation says, “The key factor for the social and economic development of a country is ‘Literacy’ which has become resonant with the country’s development in present times. It is the foundation upon which all further learning is built and is essential for eradicating poverty, reducing child mortality, curbing population growth, achieving gender equality and ensuring sustainable development, peace and democracy.  The main factors affecting literacy in India is the absence of adequate school infrastructure like proper facilities, efficient teaching staff etc. which need to be addressed. Literacy is not limited to school education; it is taking care of the moral compass of an individual along with inculcating respect for the elders and the society and making oneself independent.

This year’s theme suggested by UNESCO is ‘Literacies for the 21st Century’ which signifies the need for basic literacy skills as well as making every individual equipped with advanced literacy skills. DLF Foundation is doing its bit by promulgating education to the underserved by opening and running schools for underprivileged and rural section of society besides providing scholarships at school, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. So, on this International Literacy day let us all work together to address the need of literacy to create a bright future where every individual should able to read and write.”
